Jimmy Pitaro, Yahoo’s general manager and vice president of media, appears set to leave the company.

Pitaro has been working to develop the portal’s original content – in a push similar to the one in the works at AOL and, to a lesser extend, MSN.

Pitaro did not immediately return a phone call and e-mail message seeking comment.

All Things D first reported Pitaro’s pending exit. PaidContent reports that an announcement may not come until later this week.

Just last week, Pitaro appeared at TheWrap’s first annual Grill conference (alongside MSN U.S. executive producer Scott Moore) talking about the company’s content strategy.

At a Goldman Sachs investment conference last week, Yahoo chief Carol Bartz downplay the departures, but admitted, “There are a few more we’re going to lose.”

UPDATE: Pitaro said he cannot comment on the rumors. For the moment, it appears he's still a Yahoo.
