There'll be a new constable at the BBC Trust soon.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, UK Prime Minister David Cameron has tapped Chris Patten as the "preferred candidate" to be the next chairman of the BBC Trust.

Patten, a former governor of Hong Kong and Oxford chancellor, will assume the position at the end of March, pending the approval of a Parliamentarian committee. If approved, he will inherit the job from Sir Michael Lyons.

Patten will oversee the BBC's oversight committee, making sure that the broadcaster meets its public-service obligations.
