If the "Web is Dead," and apps are the future, as Wired’s Chris Anderson says, then the Webby Awards -- the so-called Oscars of the Internet -- would figure to be on a path to irrelevancy.

But fear not, fans of Internet award shows! The Webbys announced on Tuesday plans to expand their already ridiculously big field to include apps for next year’s 15th annual program.

The Webbys is “expanding its mission to reflect the profound impact that apps and the mobile Web are having on digital culture and commerce,” the organizers said in a release.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley, a Yelp.com CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, UrbanDaddy CEO Lance Broumand, and Thrillist co-founder Ben Lerer will judge the new awards.

Nominees will be announced in April, and winners will be honored at the annual Webbys gala in June.
