Yahoo may be having trouble retaining top executives, but the company continues to hire high-profile bloggers to crank out original content.

On Wednesday, Yahoo is expected to announce the hiring of Zachary Roth, a former Talking Points Memo scribe, as senior national affairs blogger for The Upshot, the blog that Yahoo News launched in July.

Roth, who was the lead investigative blogger at TPM between 2008 and 2010, fills the slot vacated by John Cook, who left last month to return to Gawker just five months after exiting Nick Denton's bloggy empire for Yahoo.

Roth joins current national affairs bloggers Brett Michael Dykes and Liz Goodwin on an Upshot staff that's packed with digital talent.

Andrew Golis, Yahoo News' editor and former deputy publisher of Talking Points Memo, left TPM in 2009 to spearhead the launch of Yahoo's original news content.
