Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander Are Newlyweds in First Trailer for ‘The Light Between Oceans’ (Video)

The film is looking at a Sept. 2 release

In the first trailer for “The Light Between Oceans,” Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender are torn apart by a decision they made.

In the Derek Cianfrance-directed adaptation of M.L. Stedman’s novel of the same name, Fassbender and Vikander play newlyweds Tom and Isabel, who take care of the lighthouse on a remote island off the coast of Australia.

The couple is faced with a moral dilemma when a boat washes ashore with a dead man and a two-month-old infant. When they decide to raise the child as their own, the consequences of their choice become devastating, and once they meet the child’s real mother who thought the child died at sea, they are met with an uncommonly hard decision.

“One day, this will feel like a dream. I promise,” Fassbender’s voice says in the trailer.

Rachel Weisz also stars in the film. DreamWorks has set a Sept. 2 release date for “The Light Between Oceans.”

Both Vikander and Fassbender are up for an Academy Award this weekend. Vikander is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Danish Girl,” while Fassbender is up for Best Actor in “Steve Jobs.”
