Mike Huckabee Under Fire for Saying Obama Is Leading Israel to ‘Door of the Oven’

“Maybe it’s just an effort to push Mr. Trump out of the headlines,” President Obama says in response to Huckabee’s Nazi reference

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is receiving mass backlash in response to comments he made about President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history,” Huckabee told Breitbart on Saturday. “It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians. By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”

Obama responded Monday by calling Huckabee’s comment “sad.”

“The particular comments of Mr. Huckabee are part of just a general pattern we have seen that would be considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad,” Obama said Monday at a news conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn. “Maybe it’s just an effort to push Mr. Trump out of the headlines,” he added.

The Anti-Defamation League slammed Huckabee on Sunday by calling his Holocaust reference “completely out of line and unacceptable.”

“Israeli military and security officials have repeatedly said the Obama Administration has been as strong as any other American administration in keeping Israel secure,” Jonathan A. Greenblatt, the national director of the organization, said in a statement. “To hear Mr. Huckabee invoke the Holocaust when America is Israel’s greatest ally and when Israel is a strong nation capable of defending itself is disheartening.”

Meanwhile, “Morning Joe” co-host Mike Brzezinski didn’t mince words in her emotional response.

“If you’ve been to Auschwitz, if you’ve been to Birkenau, if you’ve been to any of these places where people were killed and you see the piles of glasses, the piles of hair, the piles of shoes and the piles of clothes,” she said as she appeared to choke up. “And every bit of their humanity that had to be stripped away, handed over as they went and burned to their deaths among other things, it’s really not a good comment to say.”

The MSNBC personality also said Huckabee’s comments were worse than any comments Donald Trump has made.

Social media is also taking Huckabee to task.

Still, the former Arkansas governor is not backing down and released a statement responding to Obama’s criticism.

“What’s ‘ridiculous and sad’ is that President Obama does not take Iran’s repeated threats seriously,” Mr. Huckabee said in a statement. “For decades, Iranian leaders have pledged to ‘destroy,’ ‘annihilate,’ and ‘wipe Israel off the map’ with a ‘big Holocaust.’”
