Police in Latvia said they had arrested a 27-year-old man for shooting a fellow audience member in a dispute that broke out over his eating popcorn too loudly during a screening of "Black Swan."

The 42-year-old fellow audience member later died of his wounds.

The Oscar-nominated film is a psychological thriller set in the world of ballet. Natalie Portman slowly loses her mind under the pressures of performing the lead in "Swan Lake."

According to police in the Baltic country, the conflict erupted as the credits rolled during a screening of the Oscar-nominated film.

Witnesses told the Latvian news agency Leta that it arose over how loudly the man was eating his popcorn. The man took offense and apparently shot the complaining audience member.

The shooting reportedly occurred on Saturday evening in the central multiplex cinema in the Latvian capital, Riga.

A spokesman for Fox Searchlight could not be immediately reached for comment.
