Vin Diesel in Talks for Summit’s ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ (Update)

Vin Diesel is circling a starring role in “The Last Witch Hunter" for director Breck Eisner

Lionsgate-Summit is in negotiations with Vin Diesel to star in “The Last Witch Hunter,”  an individual familiar with the talks told TheWrap.

Getty Images"Emmett/Furla Films is producing the film with Aperture Entertainment's Adam Goldworm executive producing and Breck Eisner (“The Crazies”) directing." Goldworm has developed the film since its inception.

Cory Goodman ("Lore," "Priest") wrote the 2010 Blacklist script, which follows the last remaining witch hunter who must stop a witch uprising in modern day manhattan.

When Summit purchased Goodman’s pitch in 2010, “Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov was attached to direct and produce the film.

Lionsgate and its Grindstone Entertainment Group have a 10-picture deal with Emmett/Furla, which was renewed this summer.

The joint venture has led to a number of films, including “Set Up” with Bruce Willis, the crime drama “Freelancers” with Robert DeNiro, “Fire With Fire” and “The Frozen Ground.”

The next film slated for release through the partnership is “Empire State” with Dwayne (“The Rock”) Johnson. Vin Diesel's upcoming films include “The Fast and The Furious 6” and an untitled "Chronicles of Riddick" sequel.

Earlier this year, Goodman co-wrote "Lore" which sold to Warner Bros. for seven figures with  Johnson attached to star.

For the Record: An earlier version of this report incorrectly stated that Summit bought the pitch this summer. It actually purchased it in 2010. The post stated that Cory Goodman wrote the most recent draft of the script; he has been the sole writer on the project.
