Country singer Mindy McCready has died at 37 of an apparent suicide.
Update: In a news release, the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas said that McCready was found dead Sunday afternoon with what appeared to be a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Deputies were sent to a home around 4 p.m. and found her body on the front porch. An autopsy is pending.
Numerous media outlets reported Sunday that the troubled singer, whose partner died barely a month ago and who has battled substance abuse, had died.
E! Online spoke to an individual close to the singer who said her body was found in Heber Springs, Ark. on Sunday.
The apparent suicide follows by barely a month the death of her partner and the father of her child, David Wilson, a songwriter and producer who died in January at the age of 34. There has been no cause of death given for Wilson, and the death remains under investigation.
McCready had two children, six-year-old Zander and nine-month-old Zayne, the latter her child with Wilson. The children were taken from her after Wilson's death out of fear for their safety.
McCready had been ordered to go to rehabilitation by a judge in recent days, who deemed that "there is cause to find that there is clear and convincing evidence that Respondent is in imminent danger of harm to herself or others, suicidal or gravely disabled."
But just a day later McCready was released to undergo outpatient treatment instead.
On Jan. 19, her last tweet was to someone called @dancinjake: "Things have been hectic. But I'm still here."
Reports on Twittter from NBC reporter Andrea Canning said that McCready's best friend had called and "said that she shot and killed herself this evening." There was no immediate independent confirmation of the information.
An individual also told E! Online that neighbors heard gunshots at her house and called the police. "She shot herself and the dog," said the source.
McCready's hits included ‘‘Guys Do It All the Time," and ‘‘Ten Thousand Angels.’’ Her album by that title sold 2 million copies.
