BB Film Productions (“Experimenter”) and Bleiberg Entertainment (“The Iceman”) have come on to produce “Predilection,” a globetrotting heist film written by “The Birth of a Nation” filmmaker Nate Parker, it was announced Thursday.

Marcio Garcia will direct the film, which draws inspiration from his award-winning short “Predileção.”

The story follows a low-level criminal who meets a legendary thief during a brief stint in jail. Together, they hatch a plan and assemble an international team for an elaborate bank robbery.

Parker is producing the film with Uri Singer and Ehud Bleiberg, while Nicholas Donnermeyer will serve as executive producer. Production is expected to start before the end of the year, and casting is currently under way.

Bleiberg Entertainment is handling the worldwide sales on “Predilection” and will introduce the project to buyers in Cannes.

“Nate is an incredibly talented storyteller and filmmaker. It’s a fast-paced, twisting script with worldwide appeal,” said Singer.

“I was such a fan of Marcio’s short film that he made with Uri. He’s gifted in both his visuals and his abilities to connect with his actors. He has huge ideas for this film and we look forward to bringing them to life,” added Bleiberg.

Parker wrote, directed, produced and stars in “The Birth of a Nation,” which Fox Searchlight will release in the heart of awards season.
