NBC News Launches ‘Dateline’ Web App for Real-Time Discussion

'Dateline Chatline' will be a forum for viewers to discuss the show as it happens and interact with the host and producers

NBC News on Monday launched "Dateline Chatline," a new web app for its signature newsmagazine that gives viewers a forum to discuss the show.

The app aggregates conversations about the show from Facebook, Twitter, GetGlue and the show’s own website. Users can also log in and join the conversation from within the app.

“This innovative platform will allow our viewers to feel even more connected with our broadcast – and the people behind it,” said Liz Cole, executive producer of "Dateline."

The app is just the latest example of a show trying to better engage its audience with a “second screen” experience. Networks and shows are trying to create more online content to engage viewers while they watch.

NBC's new app lets viewers to interact with Lester Holt, the anchor of the "Dateline," as well as correspondents like Chris Hansen, Hoda Kotb, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison and Dennis Murphy. Correspondents will respond to question and comments on Twitter or within the app.

Vieweers can interact with the show’s produers and production staff as well.

The app will go live Friday.
