NBC Renews Tina Fey’s ‘Great News’ for Season 2

Sitcom gets order for 13 more episodes

NBC has renewed freshman comedy “Great News” for a 13-episode second season, the network announced Thursday.

“Great News” follows Katie (Briga Heelan), an up-and-coming news producer, who finds out her overbearing mom (Andrea Martin) has rejoined the workforce as an intern at the station where Katie works.

The cast includes Adam Campbell, Kimrie Lewis-Davis, John Michael Higgins, Nicole Richie and Horatio Sanz.

“30 Rock” writer Tracey Wigfield serves as writer and executive producer. Fey, Robert Carlock and David Miner also executive produce. Beth McCarthy-Miller directs.

“Great News” is produced by Universal Television, Little Stranger and 3 Arts Entertainment.

“Great News” joins “The Blacklist,” “Blindspot,” “Taken” and three of four of Dick Wolf’s “Chicago” shows in getting recent renewal news. On the flip side, the network has canceled “Timeless,” “Emerald City” and “Powerless.”

NBC has also picked up new series including “AP Bio,” “Rise” and “For God and Country.”
