Netflix Renews ‘Grace and Frankie’ for Third Season

Series starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda gets early renewal ahead of second season premiere

Netflix has renewed freshman comedy “Grace and Frankie” for a third season–before the second season even has a premiere date, TheWrap has learned.

The series stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as lifelong “frienemies” who learn that their husbands have secretly been in love with each other for years.

The news comes on the heels of Tomlin’s Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on the show. She will compete against Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”), Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”), and Jamie Lee Curtis (“Scream Queens”).

The show also stars Martin Sheen, Sam WaterstonBrooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, Baron Vaughn and June Diane Raphael. Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris co-created the series. They also serve as executive producers along with Fonda, Tomlin, Paula Weinstein, Dana Goldberg, David Ellison and Marcy Ross.

The show is produced by Skydance Television for Netflix.
