Nicolas Cage has broken his ankle on the set of upcoming heist movie “#211,” according to media reports.

The 53-year-old action star was initially hospitalized in Sofia, Bulgaria, near where the film is shooting, but has since been transported back to Los Angeles for treatment.

While it is not currently known how Cage’s injury will affect the production, he reportedly hopes to return to set in about two weeks.

Millennium Films and Nu Image, the production companies behind “#211” have not yet announced how Cage’s absence will affect production.

York Shackleton directs the film that stars Cage as a police officer who attempts to stop a bank robbery (211 is police code for “robbery in progress”). The movie also stars Sophie Skelton, Amanda Cerny, Michael Rainey Jr., Dwayne Cameron and Weston Cage — Nicolas’ 26-year-old son.

Jonathan Yunger and Jeffrey Greenstein are producing “#211,” with Yariv Lerner, Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and Scott Karp on board as executive producers.

Cage’s other films in the works include “The Humanity Bureau,” “Vengeance: A Love Story,” and “Mom and Dad.” He was most recently seen in “USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage,” “Snowden” and “Dog Eat Dog.”

Representatives for Cage, Millennium Films, and Nu Image have not responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Deadline first reported the news of Cage’s injury.
