The Weinstein Company bumps the biopic, which had been set for a November release, to 2014
“Grace of Monaco” the Weinstein Company’s biopic starring Nicole Kidman, won’t be in this year’s Oscar picture, after all.
TWC had originally set a Nov. 27 limited release to qualify it for this year’s Academy Awards, but the story of Grace Kelly’s transition from actress to princess has been pushed to next year to allow for the film’s completion, according to an individual close to the project. A TWC spokesman declined comment.
The most likely scenario at this point calls for a January release in France ahead of a U.S. debut in March. That’s a better release date than the crowded holiday season in terms of commercial success.
The Weinstein Company should still have several horses in the awards races.
“Lee Daniels‘ The Butler” and “Fruitvale Station” are already in the discussion, and “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” August: Osage County,” “Philomena” and the musical “One Chance” are seen as having awards potential.
