“Orphan Black’s” co-creator and stars teased new characters for the BBC America series’ upcoming Season 3 at the Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday — and one of those new cast members is a scorpion. No, seriously.

“We’re very excited to have a few new characters with us this season,” co-creator John Fawcett said at the Pasadena panel. “James Frain joins us for Episode 1 … He plays a really amazing, scary guy that come from Topside, and is a very dangerous threat to our girls.”

“There is a new character in Alison’s world … by the name of Jason Kellerman,” he added. “That’s an interesting character because he kind of is an old high school flame of Alison’s. He kind of gets in the way a little bit and causes issues between Donnie (Kristian Bruun) and Alison.”

Kellerman (Justin Chatwin) is drug dealer/businessman; the aforementioned Frain will play Ferdinand, a well-educated “cleaner.”

Both castings were previously reported with basic character descriptions. The next one, however, is brand spanking new.

Tatiana Maslany, live via satellite, pleaded for Fawcett to not say any thing about another new cast member — a scorpion — which was featured in a teaser that ran before the media panel.

“He’s one of our grips,” Maslany joked.

“The scorpion is a cast member,” Fawcett said. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
