‘Outlander’ Casts Richard Rankin to Play Roger Wakefield

New character is pivotal addition to Season 2 of Starz drama starring Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe

Starz’s “Outlander” has finally found its Roger Wakefield.

Richard Rankin has joined the Season 2 cast of the Diana Gabaldon adaptation starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.

Described as intelligent, kindhearted, and charming, Roger is the grown-up version of Reverend Wakefield’s adorable adopted son we met in Season 1. After his parents died in World War II, Roger was raised by the Reverend (with help from his housekeeper, Mrs. Graham) and is a proud Scot through and through. Now a professor at Oxford, Roger has a keen interest in history, and all the secrets and insight it presents.

In the book “Dragonfly in Amber,” Roger is also the love interest of Brianna, daughter of Jamie (Hueghan) and Claire (Balfe). The part of Brianna has not yet been cast.

Rankin was most recently seen opposite Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller in John Wells‘ “Burnt.” TV credits include “The Syndicate” and “American Odyssey.” He is represented by Independent Talent Group in the UK.

“Outlander” returns for Season 2 in April 2016 on Starz.
