‘Outlander’ Sends Claire Back in Time in New Clip (Video)

The time-traveling nurse predicts her own future, as author Diana Gabaldon describes the book’s long journey to the screen

The wait is almost over for “Outlander” fans, and it’s been a long, long wait, according to the newest behind-the-scenes video from the Starz adaptation of Diana Gabaldon‘s bestselling fantasy romance novel.

Gabaldon and executive producer Ronald D. Moore discuss the many failed attempts to adapt the book into a feature film and how they are finally bringing the story of time-traveling nurse Claire (Caitriona Balfe) to life as a 16-episode series, while new scenes from Starz’s adaptation are shown.

“Outlander” follows Claire as she’s ripped violently from her own era — the 1920s — and dropped into 18th century Scotland. It’s there that she meets the book’s swoon-worthy leading man, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), and the two embark on an affair amid war and turmoil.  “Am I going to meet a tall, dark stranger and take a trip across the sea?” Claire asks a psychic in a rather prophetic moment from a new scene featured in the clip.

There’s also new footage of the Scottish highlands, warfare and sprawling set pieces, all of which will attempt to transport fans into the world Gabaldon created. “Starz said to make this a show that fans will love first,” Moore relates. “And trust that anybody who’s not a fan will go along for the ride.”
