Thirty years after “Laverne & Shirley” ended its eight-season run on ABC, stars Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams are reuniting for guest appearances on Nickelodeon sitcom “Sam & Cat.”
The episode, titled “#SalmonCat,” is set to air on Nov. 9. Marshall and Williams play a pair of feuding TV show creators who created a popular sitcom in the ’70s called “Salmon Cat.” Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Cat (Ariana Grande) must track them down to resolve their decade-long feud, so the young women can keep the name of their similar-sounding babysitting business.
In the preview clip (above), Sam meets with Marshall’s character to discuss the possibility of setting aside her differences with her former partner, but it doesn’t look like it will be that easy.
While there was speculation that Marshall and Williams had a real-life feud while working together, both told the Associated Press that most of those reports were just “rumors.”
“Any show you work on for eight years, you’re gonna argue at some point,” Marshall said. “Way overblown.”
Williams agreed, but added that any on-set clashes were the result of their “very different personalities.”
Although Williams left the show in the beginning of the eighth season after a disagreement with Paramount — that led to a $20 million lawsuit, which was eventually settled out of court — both maintain a friendship to this day.
Marshall’s brother, Garry, who is the creator of “Happy Days” and co-creator of “Laverne & Shirley,” is set for a reunion of his own on Nickelodeon. The producer and director will make a guest appearance on “See Dad Run,” starring former “Happy Days” cast member Scott Baio, on Nov. 10.
