Today at an event at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Sony announced that they will be selling the PlayStation VR headset for PlayStation 4 for $399 starting in October. The headset will not include the PlayStation Camera, which is required for head tracking and retails for $60.

Even with the price of the camera tacked on, PlayStation VR is a good chunk cheaper than the Oculus Rift headset for PC, which includes an Xbox One PC controller and runs for $599 will have its first wave of shipments go out later this month (Rift sets ordered today won’t ship until July). The other chief VR competitor is Valve’s HTC Vive, also for PC, which comes with a pair of motion control wands and is priced at $799.

The GearVR, which uses Samsung Galaxy S series phones as a 3D screen in a virtual reality headset, costs $99 not including the price of the phone.

PlayStation VR is the only announced virtual reality set for any game console. A PlayStation 4 goes for $349 retail.
