Po’s Long-Lost Father Returns in New ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ Trailer (Video)

The third installment of the series will hit theaters on January 29

Po is about to face his greatest challenge yet, as his father shows up unexpectedly in the new trailer for “Kung Fu Panda 3.”

The trailer opens up with Po, Tigress, Mantis, Monkey and Viper training in one of Master Shifu’s elaborate obstacle courses. But this is nothing compared to what awaits Po shortly after.

In the middle of town, a new Panda arrives, who is looking for his son whom he lost many years ago. Coincidentally, Po lost his father many, many years ago too. After wishing each other luck in their endeavor, an awkward silence throughout the audience ensues.

The rest of the movie follows the reunited duo as they travel to a secret panda paradise. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China, defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must train all the new pandas to become the ultimate gange of Kung Fu Pandas.

The third installment of the franchise features the voices of Jack Black (Po), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Jackie Chan (Monkey), Seth Rogen (Mantis), Lucy Liu (Viper) and Bryan Cranston (Li). Dustin Hoffman voices Master Shifu, and Rebel Wilson, James Hong and David Cross also star in the film.

“Kung Fu Panda 3” is directed by Alessandro Carlon and Jennifer Yuh from a screenplay by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. DreamWorks Animation is behind the production, whereas Twentieth Century Fox will distribute the film.

The movie is set to hit theaters January 29, 2016.
