The first “Harry Potter” film was released in 2001. The eight movies have grossed over $2.3 billion at the domestic box office and are based on the best-selling novels by author J.K. Rowling.
A spin-off prequel series of five films is in the works, starting with last year’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
