Mayte Garcia, the ex-wife of deceased music legend Prince, has signed a deal with Hachette Books to publish an “intimate memoir” about her time with the singer, Hachette said Tuesday.

The book, titled “The Most Beautiful” — a reference to the 1985 Prince song “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,” which was inspired by their relationship — will go on sale in April, around the one-year anniversary of Prince’s death at age 57.

“In ‘The Most Beautiful,’ Garcia, for the first time, shares the richly detailed and deeply personal story of her life and her relationship with Prince: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed), to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership), to the devastating loss of their children that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good,” Hachette said of the upcoming book.

“For many years, people have encouraged me to share my story. Prince was loved the world over but few knew him intimately,” Garcia said of the work. “And ours was a rare, almost otherworldly connection. I want to share our love story, and with it the highs and lows–always coming from a loving place, as this man is still part of my family and always will be.”

Garcia and Prince were married from 1996 until 1999. They had one son together, who died a week after his birth in October 1996. Garcia later suffered a miscarriage.

Prince died April 21 of what was later found to be an overdose of the opioid painkiller Fentanyl. The singer was found unresponsive in the elevator of his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis, days after reportedly being treated for an overdose of the painkiller Percocet.
