After braving the plots against her marriage to Prince Francis (Toby Regbo), has the cavalry arrived in the form of Mary’s (Adelaide Kane) mom? It sounds like a maybe.

Amy Brenneman has been cast as Mary’s mother, Marie de Guise, the acting regent of Scotland. It has been years since she has seen her daughter and can be quite the force against Francis’s mother, Catherine de Medici. But, one must remember that she helped to set this marriage of power up in the first place.

“We’ve been waiting for just the right moment, and the actor, to introduce Mary’s mother – the complicated and fascinating Marie de Guise,” said “Reign’s” executive producer Laurie McCarthy.

“In a time when women held very little power, Marie ruled a nation under siege. Amy Brenneman‘s talent, strength and beauty illuminate even the darker corners of Marie de Guise. Amy’s character will face off with Megan Follows’ character (Catherine de Medici), not to mention her own daughter, Mary (Adelaide Kane). Hearts will break and blood will spill as a major battle of wits ensues.”

Brenneman is represented by CAA and Mosaic.

“Reign” airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
