Ratings: ‘Arrow’ Premiere Falls 36 Percent From Last Year

On Fox, “Empire” ties series low in total viewers

“Arrow” missed the target by a wide margin on Wednesday night, with the Season 5 premiere of the CW series down almost 36 percent in the key demo compared to the Season 4 premiere.

Airing at 8 p.m. ET, “Arrow” pulled in just a 0.7 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic and 1.9 million viewers. In addition to being down in the demo, the show was also down more than 29 percent in total viewers, as well, according to Nielsen estimates.

The CW also premiered its new show “Frequency,” immediately following “Arrow.” The series, based on the Jim Caviezel movie of the same name, managed a modest 0.4 rating and 1.4 million viewers.

“Empire” also dipped this week, with Fox’s flagship show tying its series low in total viewers with 9.2 million. However, “Empire” was still the top show of the night in the demo with a 3.3 rating.

Fox finished first for the night with a 2.5 rating and 7.9 million viewers. “Lethal Weapon” averaged a 1.7 rating and 6.5 million viewers at 8 p.m. ET, followed by “Empire” at 9.

ABC came in second in the demo with a 1.8 rating but third in total viewers with 6.5 million. “The Goldbergs” drew in a 1.8 rating and 6.3 million viewers at 8 p.m. ET. “Speechless” followed at 8:30 with a 1.8 rating and 6.1 million viewers. “Modern Family” got a 2.2 rating and 7 million viewers at 9. “Black-ish” got a 1.6 rating and 5.4 million viewers. “Designated Survivor” closed out the night with a 1.6 rating and 7.1 million viewers.

CBS finished third in the demo with a 1.4 rating but second in total viewers with 7.3 million. “Survivor” got a 1.8 rating and 8.5 million viewers at 8 p.m. ET. “Criminal Minds” followed at 9 with a 1.4 rating and 7.6 million viewers. “Code Black” managed a 1.0 rating and 5.9 million viewers at 10.

NBC finished fourth with a 1.3 rating and 5.8 million viewers. “Blindspot” got a 1.3 rating and 5.6 million viewers at 8 p.m. ET. “Law & Order: SVU” pulled a 1.3 rating and 5.7 million viewers at 9. “Chicago PD” got a 1.3 rating and 6.2 million viewers at 10.

Telemundo came in fifth with a 0.8 rating and 1.9 million viewers.

Univision came in sixth with a 0.6 rating and 1.7 million viewers.

The CW finished in seventh with a 0.5 rating and 1.6 million viewers, airing only “Arrow” and “Frequency.”
