Warriors-Cavaliers battle crushes all competition with 13.6 million viewers in primetime

The NBA Finals Game 3 unsurprisingly proved to be another winner for ABC, which won the night on the strength of the battle between the Cavaliers and the Warriors.

Wednesday’s game saw an average of 13.6 million viewers tune in during primetime, compared to 13.4 million who tuned in for Game 2 in the same time period. Last night’s game also drew a 5.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic, up from 5.1 on Sunday.

In addition, the game grew to 16.5 million viewers after it ran long over the typical primetime hours of 8 p.m.-10 p.m.

ABC more than doubled the ratings of their nearest competition for the night, averaging 11.5 million viewers and a 4.2 rating. A special episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” aired at 8 p.m., drawing in 7.7 million viewers and a 2.3 rating. “NBA Countdown” followed at 8:30 p.m. with 6.9 million viewers and a 2.3 rating. Game 3 aired starting at 9 p.m.

NBC finished a distant second with 5.2 million viewers and a 1.3 rating. “American Ninja Warrior” aired from 8-10 p.m., scoring 5.7 million viewers on average and a 1.6 rating. “The Night Shift” followed at 10 p.m. with 4.3 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

Fox finished third in the key demo with a 1.0 rating but fourth in total viewers with 3.2 million. “Master Chef” cooked up 4.1 million viewers at 8 and a 1.2 rating. “Wayward Pines” got just 2.4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating at 9.

CBS finished fourth in the demo with a 0.6 rating but third in total viewers with 3.8 million, airing only repeats.

Telemundo finished fifth with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.

Univision finished sixth with 1.3 million viewers and a 0.4 rating.

The CW came in sixth with 760,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating, airing only repeats.
