Having wrapped “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Diego Luna is in negotiations to star opposite Ellen Page in Sony’s re-imagining of the 1990 sci-fi thriller “Flatliners,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Sony declined to comment, while representatives for Luna did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Niels Arden Oplev (“Mr. Robot,” “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) will direct from a script by Ben Ripley (“Source Code”). Laurence Mark (“I, Robot”) will produce with Michael Douglas. Production is slated to start in early July.

“Flatliners” follows a group of medical students who experiment with “near death” experiences that involve past tragedies until the dark consequences begin to jeopardize their own lives.

The cast of the new “Flatliners” movie is expected be more inclusive and international than Joel Schumacher‘s original film, which starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt. This time around, the core cast will feature three women and two men.

Luna is gearing up for a busy 2016 campaign, as not only does he star in Disney and Lucasfilm’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” but he co-stars alongside Mel Gibson in “Blood Father” and has a major role in Ana Lily Amirpour‘s dystopian love story “The Bad Batch.”

Additionally, Luna recently wrote, directed and produced the Sundance drama “Mr. Pig,” which stars Danny Glover and Maya Rudolph. He’s represented by WME and attorney Robert S. Wallerstein.
