The consequences for its erroneous “A Rape on Campus” story began to to unfold Monday as Phi Kappa Psi announced it will explore all legal action against the magazine for falsely reporting a gang rape of a University of Virginia female student took place at their house.

“After 130 days of living under a cloud of suspicion as a result of reckless reporting by Rolling Stone magazine, today the Virginia Alpha Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi announced plans to pursue all available legal action against the magazine,” Phi Kappa Psi president Stephen Scipione said in a statement.

“Clearly our fraternity and its members have been defamed” chapter president Stephen Scipione said. “But more importantly we fear this entire episode may prompt some victims to remain in the shadows, fearful to confront their attackers,” Stephen Scipione, the president of the fraternity chapter in Charlottesville, Virginia, said in a statement.

A fraternity spokesperson said he didn’t know what would be in the lawsuit or when the organization planned on filing.

Rolling Stone did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
