Sam Neill Cast as Lead in AMC Drama ‘The Son’

Henry Garrett, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Nunez and Sydney Lucas co-star in series based on Philipp Meyer novel

AMC has cast Sam Neill has the lead of the upcoming family drama “The Son.”

The drama, based on Philipp Meyer’s novel of the same name, was ordered straight-to-series last month, with 10 hour-long episodes set to air in 2017. It is described as a multi-generational epic telling of the story of America’s birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family.

The “Jurassic Park” actor will play Eli, the charismatic patriarch of the McCullough family in the drama, alongside co-stars Henry Garrett, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Nunez and Sydney Lucas.

“This is an incredibly talented cast, led by the remarkable Sam Neill, and we can’t wait to see them embody these characters and give life to this unforgettable story,” Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, said in a statement.

The series from AMC Studios and Sonar Entertainment is written and executive produced by Meyer, Lee Shipman, Brian McGreevy and showrunner Kevin Murphy. Jenna Glazier will produce for Sonar.
