“Ghostbusters” has moved up one week to July 15, 2016

Sony Pictures has unveiled release dates for 16 films for the studio’s 2016 and 2017 slates, including not one but two “Bad Boys” sequels, a Christmas 2016 date for “Jumanji” and a one-year delay for “Uncharted,” which has moved to June 2017.

Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” has moved up one week to July 15, 2016 from July 22, 2016. Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig star in the film, which is expected to launch a new franchise for Sony. The big-budget film will now open against “Ice Age 5” and the Ryan Gosling-Emma Stone musical “La La Land,” leaving WB’s “King Arthur” as the only film slated for release on July 22, 2016.

Speaking of franchises, an adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” will bow on Jan. 13, 2017, and “Barbie” will strut her stuff on June 2, 2017.

The Chris Pratt-Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi romance “Passengers” will be waiting under the Christmas tree next year, with a holiday season release date of Dec. 21, 2016.

Genre sequels “Underworld 5” and “Resident Evil 6” will hit theaters on Oct. 21, 2016 and Jan. 27, 2017, respectively. Meanwhile, the zombie movie “Patient Zero” will infect audiences on Sept. 2, 2016.

While Sony believes that “Patient Zero” and “Uncharted” have franchise potential, the studio is also betting on daring original films such as Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver” on March 17, 2017 and Jodie Foster’s “Money Monster,” starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, on April 8, 2016.

Sony has already dated the next live-action “Spider-Man” movie for July 28, 2017 and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s animated “Spider-Man” film on July 20, 2018. Those films compliment Denzel Washington’s “The Equalizer 2” on Sept. 29, 2017; Tom Hanks’ “Inferno” on Oct. 14, 2016 and Ang Lee’s “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” on Nov. 11, 2016.
