Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners Options Thriller ‘The Apartment’

S.L. Grey’s new novel, about a housing swap gone wrong, will be published this summer by Macmillan

Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Partners is developing a thriller titled “The Apartment” based on an upcoming novel by S.L. Grey, the pen name of writers Sarah Lotz and Louis Greenberg, TheWrap has learned.

“The Apartment” follows a couple who survive a brutal home invasion and decide to swap homes with a French couple they meet online. When they arrive in Paris, they discover their new apartment isn’t nearly as luxurious as advertised, but they’re unable to contact the French couple. When they finally return to America, neither can shake the feeling that there’s something sinister about their own home.

DreamWorks has not assigned producers to the project, which should heat up once Macmillan publishes the book this summer.

Should “The Apartment” come to fruition, Universal will likely distribute the film under its new agreement with Amblin Partners, which was founded in December.

The Tracking Board first reported the news, which “Grey” confirmed on Facebook.
