Ratings: Without World Series, ‘Sunday Night Football’ Is King Again

Though an NFL overrun on CBS threatened NBC’s total-viewer victory

The World Series is over, NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” is the top show on television once more, and all is right with the world. You know, for like 24 hours before it all ends following the presidential election.

The “Football Night in America” home topped Sunday’s primetime with its Denver Broncos-Oakland Raiders coverage. CBS came somewhat close in total viewers, thanks to a big NFL overrun at 7 p.m. ET.

NBC was first in ratings with a 4.9 rating/15 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 13.8 million, according to preliminary numbers that combined the game with 90 minutes of kickoff show.

CBS was second in ratings with a 2.2/7 and in viewers with 12 million. The overrun at 7 scored a 5.3/17 and 19.8 million viewers. At 7:30, the conclusion combined with “60 Minutes” for a 4.1/13 and 16.9 million viewers. More “60 Minutes” at 8 had a 2.3/7 and 13.8 million viewers. At 8:30, the news magazine show combined with “NCIS: Los Angeles” for a 1.8/5 and 12.1 million viewers. At 9, the meat of that episode got a 1.3/4 and 10 million viewers. At 9:30, the conclusion of “NCIS: LA” combined with “Madam Secretary” for a 1.2/3 and 9.4 million viewers. More “Madam Secretary” at 10 received a 0.9/3 and 7.7 million viewers. At 10:30, the Tea Leoni show ran into “Elementary,” combining for a 0.8/3 and 6.3 million viewers.

Fox was third in ratings with a 1.1/3 and fourth in viewers with 2.6 million. Following a rerun, “Bob’s Burgers” at 7:30 had a 1.0/3 and 2.4 million viewers. “The Simpsons” at 8 got a 1.4/4 and 3.2 million viewers. “Son of Zorn” at 8:30 received a 0.9/3 and 2.1 million viewers. “Family Guy” followed at 9 with a 1.2/4 and 2.6 million viewers. At 9:30, “The Last Man on Earth” closed the network’s primetime to a 0.9/3 and 2.2 million viewers.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.8/3 and third in viewers with 3.6 million. At 7, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” had a 1.0/3 and 5.7 million viewers. “Once Upon a Time” at 8 got a 1.1/3 and 3.5 million viewers. At 9, “Secrets and Lies” managed a 0.6/2 and 2.8 million viewers. “Quantico” at 10 was flat with its lead-in for the main demo, but fell further to just 2.2 million total viewers.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.8 million.

Univision was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.5 million.
