Susan Sarandon Denies Julia Roberts Feud on ‘Stepmom’ Set

“It was my PR person creating rumors,” actress tweets

Susan Sarandon took to Twitter earlier this week to deny nearly 20-year-old rumors that she feuded with “Stepmom” costar Julia Roberts, accusing a “PR person” of “creating rumors” at the time.

In the tweet, the actress included a 1998 Entertainment Weekly article in which both actresses addressed the rumors that they hated each other during the filming the movie.

“Actually, Susan and I were kinda hoping that people would say we were f–ing. Now that’s delicious cocktail-party fodder. But this? Boring,” Roberts had said.

“If you make a movie with a male star everyone assumes you’re f–g,” Sarandon declared in the article. “If it’s a female star, everyone assumes you’re fighting.”

“Stepmom” follows a terminally ill woman (Sarandon) who has to come to terms with her former husband’s new lover (Roberts), and future stepmother to her children. It also stars Ed Harris and Jena Malone.

Sarandon currently plays Bette Davis in “Feud,” Ryan Murphy’s docu-drama about the famous 1960s rivalry between Davis and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange). While the two feud on the show, Sarandon clarified on Twitter than in real-life, it’s the opposite.
