The “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star had no trouble being honest about an addiction that he says led to being unfaithful to his wife of 25 years
Some people are moved to tears when talking about their demons, but pec-popping extraordinaire Terry Crews kept a smile on his face when opening up about his addiction to pornography, and even moved the audience to laughter.
“I was addicted to pornography since I was 12 years old,” the football player-turned-actor told Wendy Williams during an interview (above) on Wednesday. “My father was addicted to alcohol and my mother was addicted to religion. So what happens is you had an addictive household.”
The “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star, who is also the new host of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and one of “The Expendables,” said he began looking at pornography in his uncle's basement before the advent of the internet.
Crews writes about the struggle in his new memoir, “Manhood.” He believes the addiction, which he kept secret from his wife for years, eventually led to infidelity five years ago.
“The pornography addiction turns into something else,” Crews said. “You can't have something like that in your life without it growing into something else. Everything grows.”
Crews has been married to his wife, Rebecca, for 25 years. Their relationship survived the affair, and she sat in the audience to support him.
“Men get addicted to looking at pictures of you. That's how powerful a woman is,” Crews said. “It's one of those things that took me away and it medicated me. But this is the problem. I never told anyone.”
