‘The X-Files’ Season 10 To Get Audiobook Treatment Starring Duchovny, Anderson (Video)

“The X-Files: Cold Cases” brings the gang back together this summer

“The X-Files” is returning… with Mulder and Scully… played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Excited yet?

The cult classic will be making a comeback once again with a lot of the original cast in tow, only it’ll be in a different format than we’re used to — an audiobook.

Audible announced Monday that it’ll be releasing “X-Files: Cold Cases,” an audiobook featuring Mulder, Scully and a lot of the other series players – including Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner, William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man, and Tom Braidwood, Bruce Hardwood, and Dean Haglund as the Lone Gunmen — that will flesh out the time between “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” in 2006 and the Season 10 revival.

“Cold Cases” will be based on “The X-Files: Season 10” graphic novels by Joe Harris and takes place following a data breach at the FBI that gives a mysterious group access to the X-Files. This forces Mulder and Scully out of anonymity and back into the conspiracy-laden, extraterrestrial world from the show.

In a teaser video released by Audible, the cast comes together to hype the audiobook, which they ensure will feel just as comfortable for the fans as it was for them to get back into the characters.

“For the hardcore fans it’ll be the exact same thing,” said Bruce Hardwood, who plays Lone Gunman John Fitzgerald Byers.

The audiobook was made in part with series creator Chris Carter, who provided creative direction, and Dirk Maggs, who is best known for radio dramas such as “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” on BBC Radio 4.

“The X-Files” fans have never been starved for content to consume. The show premiered in 1993 and ran into 2002 for nine seasons, along with two films and a spinoff “Lone Gunmen” series. Since the show ending, there have been comics, along with the maligned 2016 revival. “The X-Files Season 11,” also by Harris, was published by IDW starting in Aug. 2015.

Fans will get to hear the audiobook starting on July 18. Pre-orders are now open for $24.95 or are free with an Audible membership.
