Allison Shearmur (“The Hunger Games”) is also producing the movie, which is not a “Hocus Pocus” sequel
Tina Fey is attached to star in an Untitled Witch Project for Disney — though it's not the “Hocus Pocus” sequel that many nostalgic fans had hoped for, an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap.
Fey will produce through her Little Stranger banner along with Allison Shearmur, though the project remains in early development at Disney, whose Tendo Nagenda will oversee for the studio.
While many film fans clamor for more “original” movies that aren't based on existing IP and pre-branded material, in this case, a “Hocus Pocus” sequel would actually make sense for Disney, especially with Fey involved both behind and in front of the camera. The title is simply too good, and there's a lot of goodwill for the original movie — the sort that would boost interest in a sequel/spinoff/reboot with a revamped cast.
Fey has been focusing on her budding movie career of late. Not only is she currently filming Universal's “The Nest” with BFF Amy Poehler, but she recently hired John Requa and Glenn Ficarra to direct Paramount's “The Taliban Shuffle,” which she's also producing.
Fey is represented by WME.
