Appearing on Fox News to discuss his memoir Monday, Tom Brokaw said the media has been swimming in speculation over his take on the Brian Williams controversy.
“There’s been way too much speculation,” he told Sean Hannity. “I read things attributed to me or what my state of mind is — completely wrong, almost all of them. I hope that this can get worked out to the advantage of everybody, but we have got to let the process play out.”
Various reports have indicated a strained relationship between Brokaw and Williams, where Williams held resentment toward Brokaw for not embracing him as his successor.
“We have a process under way in fairness to Brian and, by the way, we have always had cordial relationships, in fairness to him and his family, we need to let the process play out,” Brokaw continued.
NBC held its Upfront presentation Monday, where there was no mention of Williams or his future with the news network.
Most media pundits think the network can’t feasibly bring the anchor back and keep its credibility, so the Williams decision will be one of the most interesting media storylines of the next few weeks.
