Which is worse for the Emmys, football or MTV?

Apparently MTV. After announcing earlier this month that the Primetime Emmy Awards were being moved forward from Sept. 20 to Sept. 13, to avoid conflict with two big NFL games, the TV Academy and CBS on Wednesday decided to go back to the original date.

The Sept. 13 date conflicts with MTV's Music Video Awards, which MTV was unable to move. Another issue with the Sept. 20 date is that it would mean moving  "60 Minutes" and starting the Emmys later in the evening. But CBS has decided to shorten "60 Minutes" so that the Emmys can air at 8 p.m.

"After we announced plans for Sept. 13, MTV informed us they were locked into the same day for the Video Music Awards, with venue and sponsorship agreements in place. We had the flexibility to move; they didn't," CBS' Jack Sussman, exec VP of specials, music and live events said in a statement. "It's best for the industry and the audience that these events not compete against each other."

The Creative Arts Emmys will air on Sept. 12, which means they will no longer share the weekend with the Primetime show.
