Thanks in part to an Emmy-worthy performance from John Lithgow, "Dexter" continues to notch bloody amazing ratings for Showtime.

Sunday's episode of the serial killer drama was the show's most-watched ever, with 2.1 million viewers. It also gave the pay network its most-watched episode of a series in more than a decade, and was up 39 percent from the show's season premiere (1.5 million viewers).

Lithgow has been winning raves for his performance as the Trinity killer.

With the big "Dexter" big lead-in, meanwhile, "Californication" attracted 913,000 viewers, its best performance ever.

The season finale of "Dexter" airs Sunday. Check out a preview of the episode here.
