JoAnn Alfano has resigned as executive vice president, entertainment for Lifetime Networks, TheWrap has confirmed.

Alfano took the post in September 2008.

She cited Lifetime's merger with A&E Television Networks in her statement announcing the departure.

"Post merger of Lifetime and AETN, I decided a few months ago that I would leave Lifetime. I wanted to stay on through the first year to help shepherd some great projects through the development process," Alfano said.

"While I am saddened to leave my incredibly talented team, I am extremely proud of the work we created together."

In her position, Alfano spearheaded programming, production and acquisitions for Lifetime and oversaw the production of scripted comedy "Rita Rocks."

Prior to Lifetime, she had worked as a creative executive on such series as "30 Rock," "Scrubs," "Will & Grace" and "Homicide: Life on the Street."

President and general manager of Lifetime Networks and History Nancy Dubuc will fulfill ALfano's duties for the time being.

News of Alfano's departure was first reported by Deadline.com.
