Starz's "Torchwood: Miracle Day" had a very encouraging premiere this weekend -- but whether it achieves a longevity in keeping with its theme will depend on how well subsequent episodes do.

Friday's series premiere of "Torchwood: Miracle Day" -- which imagines a world where, suddenly, nobody dies -- performed on par with the April premiere of "Camelot," which was the highest-rated original series premiere for the cable outlet. Between the 10 p.m. viewing and its 11 p.m. re-broadcast, "Torchwood" drew in a combined 1.51 million total viewers -- and that number climbed to 2 million when Sunday-night encores of the premiere are factored in. (The above numbers don't include On Demand and Internet viewings.)

The "Camelot" premiere, by comparison, drew 1.57 million total viewers for its initial Friday-night airings, and 2 million overall viewers for its premiere weekend.

The downside? While "Torchwood: Miracle Day" kept pace with the strong-starting "Camelot," the latter series was canceled in April, so anything can happen.
