Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have extended their respective deals with Comedy Central, ensuring a small measure of late-night stability during this time of war.
Stewart's deal for "The Daily Show" now runs through June 2013, while Colbert is locked in to "The Colbert Report" until the end of 2012, the Viacom-owned network said. Both men will continue to write, produce and host their shows (with Stewart also exec producing "Colbert" via his Busboy Productions).
Here's where we tell you what you're already thinking: Yes, this news comes in the wake of Comedy Central rival TBS signing Conan O'Brien to a five-year deal to host a new show that will compete directly with Stewart and Colbert.
Did Coco help his bros Jon and Steve get a few more dollars? Almost certainly, though it's also probably likely that Comedy Central would have reupped this duo anyway and given them cost-of-living raises to boot, at minimum.
Refreshingly, Comedy Central included not a single quote from anybody in its release announcing the agreements. No fake funny sentences from Stewart or Colbert; no "Dang, we're thrilled to have this amazing duo secure in our arms" blather from Doug Herzog or any other execs, either.
Stewart has been hosting "Daily Show" since 1999, while Colbert was spun off into his "Report" in fall 2005.
