Critics often dismiss the talents of Adam Sandler and David Spade, frequently describing them as "cartoonish."
The folks at TBS agree. In a good way.
The comedy-focused cable network is teaming with Sandler, Spade and Sony to develop an animated version of "The Adventures of Joe Dirt," the 2001 Sony feature in which Spade played a white-trash janitor with a fondness for the mullet cut.
Sandler's Happy Madison produced the movie and is attached to the TV remake; Sandler is not currently attached as an executive producer himself.
TBS has only agreed to buy a script for the project, whose title has been shortened to simply "Joe Dirt." Spade will partner with original "Joe" scribe Fred Wolf, along with Donick Cary, to write the pilot script. They also will serve as executive producers, along with Happy Madison.
TBS, home to high-rated repeats of "Family Guy," is developing several other animated projects as it mulls a move into the first-run toon space. The network already has greenlit one, "Neighbors From Hell," for a summer debut.
