FX has acquired the rights to recent releases "The Karate Kid," "The A-Team," "Date Night" and "The Tooth Fairy," part of the network's strategy to grab the rights to high-profile new movie releases.

"Last year, we had 11 of the top 20 box office films," a network spokesperson told TheWrap, "and the year before that we had 11 of the top 20."

"Karate Kid" has been an early hit this summer. As of Tuesday, the film had racked up $67.7 million at the box office.

FX also has the rights to "Iron Man 2," "Shrek Forever After" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" through output deals with Marvel, Dreamworks Animation and Summit.

"It is safe to say that we are the dominant basic cable network in acquired theatrical films," said the FX spokesperson.
