‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s’ Jane Krakowski Jokes About Competitive Emmy Category

“We Could Have Our Own Hunger Games,” actress tells TheWrap

Jane Krakowski received four Emmy nominations for her role in “30 Rock,” and now she has a fifth to add to the list.

Her turn as the pill-popping housewife Jacqueline Voorhes in the Netflix series “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” earned Krakowski a Supporting Actress in a Comedy nomination on Wednesday alongside seven other actresses, including last year’s winner Allison Janney of “Mom,” and Julie Bowen of “Modern Family,” Mayim Bialik of “The Big Bang Theory,” Niecy Nash of “Getting On,” Kate McKinnon of “Saturday Night Live,”  Gaby Hoffmann of “Transparent” and “Veep’s” Anna Chlumsky.

“It’s an incredible group of ladies,” the actress said in an interview with TheWrap. “I’m actually quite surprised that I’m one of them.”

TheWrap: What was your first reaction to finding out you were nominated?
Krakowski: I honestly thought I was being “Punk’d,” I was completely in shock. I got a call right after I saw that “Kimmy” got nominated for Outstanding Comedy, which I was so thrilled about, and I thought they were calling to tell me that it got nominated for that. And then they said that I was nominated. I was like “guys, stop.” I couldn’t believe it. My heart started palpitating so much, I had to try to find a baby aspirin to calm my heart down.

How do you plan to celebrate your nomination?
I’m away with my four-year-old son right now and we’re the only people home. So, right after I got off the phone, I ran up to him and said, “Bennett, mommy got nominated for an Emmy!” and he just looked at me completely blank. And then we resumed playing.

Who do you see as your stiffest competition in your category?
Everyone. It’s an incredible group of ladies. I’m actually quite surprised that I’m one of them. I was so surprised and excited. And there’s so many of us, we could have our own Hunger Games, practically.

What do you see as this year’s biggest snubs?
Well, there were some people in my own group. I was very sad that Ellie [Kemper, who stars as Kimmy Schmidt] didn’t get nominated. And Jeff Richmond, I think he’s so brilliant with the music. And our writing staff.

But you don’t want to focus on that. The support we have been given has been incredible. The fact that the show got nominated means so much, and it’s such a great celebratory thing for everyone involved. We’re just so thankful for all the support we’ve had since the show got released on Netflix.
