Universal Pictures Crosses $5 Billion Worldwide Box Office

“Furious 7,” “Jurassic World” and “Pitch Perfect 2” drive studio’s epic year

It’s a reigning year for Universal Pictures, as the studio soared past the $5 billion worldwide box office mark, breaking another industry record.

With movies like “Furious 7,” “Jurassic World, “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the studio has reached the benchmark faster than any other.

July animated release “Minions,” which crossed $500 million at the worldwide box office on Thursday night, boosted the studio’s total gross to $1.709 billion domestically and $3.292 internationally. The little yellow helpers debuted last weekend at $115.7 million.

“Jurassic World” will cross $600 million at the North American box office Friday, bringing its worldwide grossing total to $1.491 billion.
