Time Warner Cable and Univision Communications Inc. have forged a multi-year, multi-platform agreement to deliver more Univision content to Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks subscribers, the companies announced Wednesday.
The agreement will bring Hispanic networks and content to Time Warner Cable customers, including Univision’s new networks: Univision Deportes, Univision tlNovelas and FOROtv. Time Warner Cable will also be among the first distributors to carry the El Rey Network, an English-language entertainment cable network geared toward young-adult audiences.
El Rey launches at the end of 2013.

“Hispanics represent a significant growth opportunity for distributors and our goal in this highly competitive environment is to build long-term partnerships that tap into the power of our brand, deliver top quality programming and leverage our exhaustive range of multi-platform offerings,” said Tonia O’Connor, president, Content Distribution and Corporate Business Development, Univision Communications Inc.
The multi-platform deal includes additional “TV Everywhere” content for subscribers and access to Univision’s UVideos and Univision Deportes digital properties.
The expanded partnership also includes renewed distribution rights for Univision’s flagship broadcast and cable networks. In addition, Time Warner Cable and Univision’s Television Group have reached a local news partnership to serve Hispanic audiences in Los Angeles, New York and other shared markets.
“Our comprehensive agreement expands the number of ways our Hispanic subscribers can enjoy their favorite entertainment, news, sports and telenovelas,” said Melinda Witmer, executive vice president, chief video and content officer for Time Warner Cable. “We also look forward to the launch of El Rey; after talking with Robert and his creative team for more than a year, we’re convinced that this new network will provide our customers with a unique experience.”
Univision Deportes Network and Univision tlNovelas will be available this week on Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks in most Univision markets.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
