Washington Post ‘Very Embarrassed’ About Using Male Symbol for Women’s March Cover Story

“We apologize for the mistake,” publication says

Washington, D.C., newspaper the Express performed some emergency gender reassignment surgery on Thursday after publishing a cover touting a story about this month’s Women’s March — illustrated with an image of the male gender symbol.

The Express — a freebie published by the Washington Post — declared that it was “embarrassed” by the goof on its Twitter account, offering an image of what the cover should have looked like had they not completely screwed up.

“We made a mistake on our cover this morning and we’re very embarrassed,” the publication tweeted. “We erroneously used a male symbol instead of a female symbol.”

The Express added, “This is how the cover should have looked. We apologize for the mistake.”

The publication also noted that it will “be addressing this and including a corrected image in tomorrow’s paper.”

The cover story delves into a 150,000-strong rally for women’s rights scheduled to take place the day after the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump later this month. A noble bit of coverage, perhaps, but the botched delivery didn’t go unnoticed among readers.

“Maybe the Washington Post’s cover identifies as male,” one wag suggested.

“Which North Carolina bathroom would today’s Washington Post be allowed into?” chimed in actor Harry Shearer.
