Watch Ellen Page Come Out in This 2008 SNL Sketch (Video)

Before she officially came out on Valentine’s Day 2014, Ellen Page satirized the lesbian rumors about her on SNL

In 2008, Ellen Page appeared in a skit on Saturday Night Live that poked fun at speculation that she was a lesbian. Appearing with Andy Samberg, Page is shown coming back home from a Melissa Etheridge concert, completely awe-struck by the experience.

“It was so inspiring! And then the Indigo Girls came out! Ahhh!” she exclaimed. “And then Ellen DeGeneres did this bit about being in the closet when she was young and I was like –ahhh! And it was so funny and so true, and I didn’t know what to do with myself.”

When Samberg asks if she “went gay” at the concert, Page proudly responds, “I just feel like an oil lamp that’s never been lit. And now I’m finally burning bright with sister fire!”

On Friday, Page really did come out, and said she was embarrassed at having hidden her sexual identity before. “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. And I am standing here today with all of you on the other side of that pain,” she said.
