‘Bright’ Teaser Shows Will Smith as Human Cop in Fantasy Noir (Video)

‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer re-teams with Smith for new Netflix movie

The first trailer for the Netflix film “Bright” appeared during the 2017 Academy Awards, and it looked a bit like “Suicide Squad 2.” Director David Ayer has brought back Will Smith from “Suicide Squad” for the $90 million movie.

Netflix famously paid quite a bit for the Ayer project, which will air exclusively on the streaming service. It stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace and a guy who looks a bit like Killer Croc — who was also in “Suicide Squad.” In fact, the makeup used on Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje helped “Suicide Squad” net the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Actually, that Killer Croc guy is Edgerton. He plays an Orc, who teams up with human detective Will Smith as they patrol the fantastic streets of Los Angeles. They seem to be dealing with quite a few magical-looking people, which might explain the increased militarization of the police throughout the trailer. Then again, it could just be Donald Trump’s policy on dealing with inner city violence.

“American Ultra” and “Chronicle” writer Max Landis is behind the script for “Bright.” Reports suggest that “Bright” will have a similar tone to Ayer’s other Los Angeles cop movie, “End of Watch” — but it’ll take place in a version of Earth that includes Orcs and fairies.

Look for “Bright” on Netflix in December 2017.
